How the Driving Test Works

What is the driving test?

The driving test (often called the road test) is the final part of driver's education. It consists of a practical driving test where you must demonstrate the skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for safe driving in traffic. If you pass the test – you get your driver's license! 🎉

Choose the correct traffic station

When you book your driving test on the Norwegian Public Roads Administration's website, you can choose the traffic station yourself. Our tip: Choose an area you are familiar with. This way, you can feel more confident on the day of the test – and it's also great to pass the test in the area where you will be driving on a daily basis.

How long does the trial last?

The driving test usually lasts 60–75 minutes and consists of three parts:

1. Preparation and inspection of the vehicle
2. Driving in varied traffic
3. Summary and assessment

What does the examiner consider?

Sensors from the Norwegian Public Roads Administration look at the whole picture – not just individual details. Minor errors can occur, and it doesn't necessarily mean a fail. The assessment is based on the main objectives of the training according to § 11-1. It reads as follows:

• He is traffic-safe
• Shows good interaction with other road users
• Contributes to smooth traffic flow
• Consider the environment, health, and other people
• Complies with current regulations

The goal is for you to demonstrate confidence, good judgment, and an understanding of the traffic situation.
