What Do You Learn in the Basic Traffic Course?

In the Basic Traffic Course, you’ll gain essential knowledge about traffic, how to act as a driver, and what’s required to travel safely on the road.

The course gives you insight into:

• The driver’s responsibility and role in traffic
• Traffic rules and the Norwegian traffic system
• Basic traffic understanding
• First aid and handling accidents
• Night driving (Driving in the Dark)

How Long Does the Course Last?

The course consists of 17 teaching hours, spread over at least 5 sessions.
You can start from the age of 15. After completing the Basic Traffic Course, you can begin practice driving with a qualified supervisor from the age of 16.

Night Driving – Important to Know!

If you complete the Basic Traffic Course during the summer (March 16 – October 31), you must also take the Night Driving module later, before you’re allowed to continue practice driving after October 31. This course is completed in the autumn or winter.

Are You Over 25?

If you’re over 25, you don’t need the full Basic Traffic Course to start practice driving.
However, you must still complete these parts before the driving test:

• First aid and handling accidents
• Night driving (Driving in the Dark)
