Driving in the dark (previously called “darkness demonstration”) is a mandatory part of the basic traffic course in Norway.
If you are under 25 years old, you must complete this course in order to practice driving between November 1 and March 15.
If you take the basic course in summer, the night driving session must be completed later before you can obtain your driver’s license.

The course is held during the winter season, from around October to March, and lasts 4 hours after sunset.

What will you learn?

The course gives you practical understanding of how darkness affects traffic and what is required to travel safely:

  • How headlights, streetlights, and reflectors affect visibility
  • Why pedestrians and cyclists are harder to see in the dark
  • Safe driving on dark roads
  • Correct use of high and low beam headlights

The course consists of:

  • Demonstrations in an area with little or no traffic
  • Demonstrations in a car in real traffic situations
  • Theory, summary, and reflection together with your instructor and classmates in the classroom

Night driving is essential for your safety and gives you a more confident start as a driver.

Our courses start from October 13 – sign up HERE and get ready for safe winter driving practice!
